It’s Day 6 of my trip to Denver and I’ve hardly had any downtime. The 950 miles turned into two full days of driving with the stormy weather. I barely made it into town in time for league on Thursday night.
Samm and I played in a tournament on Saturday at Rack ‘Em Billiards in Aurora. I was glad we ended up playing. We almost skipped it since our day started at 5:30 that morning where we spent five hours assembly and delivering fruit baskets for a volunteer project. We barely got home in time to shower and grab a quick bite before the tournament started at 1p.m.
It was bar table 8 ball, race to five, $10 entry. 39 players showed up and the room owner matched the pot. It was a good mix of players and after four matches, I was playing for the driver’s seat around 1a.m. I won and ended up splitting in the finals.
I’ve really been hitting the ball well lately. I’ve had the opportunity to play in so many big back to back tournaments. All this steady high level competition has been great for my experience and confidence. Just before leaving for Denver, I finished third at Spike’s in Faribault. That was on Valleys also.
I’m beginning to feel a lot more comfortable with those Valley Aramith cue balls (aka panther). I’ve been so spoiled playing leagues and tournaments in Minnesota on nothing but Diamond Smart Tables that it takes me a little time to adjust to the heavier cue ball when I get on a Valley. It really does level the playing field.
I’ll be back in the Twin Cities before Christmas and leaving for Derby City the first week of January.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I wish you all a Happy Holiday Season!
